Structural Maintenance

Structural maintenance is responsible from all maintenance activities related with aircraft structure.

Approximately 80% of the materials used on an aircraft are aluminum alloys, 12-16% are steel alloys. Some other materials like titanium and magnesium are also used on aircraft structures.

Today, use of composit material has begun widely and mostly on new aircraft types.

Different than other structures of vehicles, structure of aircraft is under effort of different factors. As a result of these efforts, corrosion, cracks and other type of and damages occur on aircraft structure. It is important to recognize these damages before it effects the flight safety and return the aircraft structure back into its original condition. In order to maintain this, structure of aircraft is controlled and inspected at each periodic maintenance and essential repair or component changes are performed.

Structural repair and control activities and structural modifications developed by OEMs are performed in Structural Repair or Composite Shops according to the material type.
