Contents / The friendly face of the North ' Oslo '
Oslo offers several attractions for those who want to get to know it. The first is a morning stroll in Vigeland Park. A walk through this park with its close to 200 works produced over a period of forty years by the world-famous Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland is like a living dream. As your hands reach out to touch the sculptures, the greenery and the swans swimming in the ponds catch your eye. And ringing in your ears all the while is the crystal clear voice of Norwegian vocalist, Sissel Kyrkjebø, a magical voice that seems to evoke the sea. You'll feel a flutter of excitement and, quickening your steps, you will leave the park and take the first street leading down to the sea, to Aker Brygge. You will sit down here, on the bridge, where you can see the sea, Akershus Fortress and the Viking ships. You'll feel hungry. And here, in this resplendent northern capital, there is always a restaurant to fit your budget where you can sample either the local fare or the cuisines of the world. Would you like to try some Norwegian specialties? Then I recommend fish, naturally. But hold on a minute, it's still early. What would you say to a waffle and coffee?
