THE SUMMIT OF MOUNT NEMRUT
The name of Pharaoh Tutankhamen is a household word
today. And his tomb, a great mystery waiting to be
uncovered.
Among the ruins left behind on the summit of Mt Nemrut
as the Commagene dynasty was retreating from the stage
of history is a tomb which has still not been found:
the tomb of Antiochus. What’s more, this tomb
has divided the archeological world in two, some claiming
it to be more important than the tomb of Tutankhamen,
others that it is only of secondary importance. At
the summit of this mountain encircled by towering
peaks, a tomb surrounded by giant statues and covered
by a steep mound of millions of chunks of limestone.
