COSMOPOLITAN ATMOSPHERE
Let us set off on a discovery tour of Çukurcuma. Various itineraries are possible. We could either make the first left from Galatasaray's Yeni Çarsi Sokak or enter from Siraselviler, or we could take the street next to Firuzaga Mosque and turn left after passing the pickle shop, Asri Tursucu. The Halide D design shop at No. 71, on the lower floor of a centuries-old building, is one of the newcomers to Turnacibasi Street, having moved here a few months ago from Nisantasi. Designer Didem Çebi is pleased with the energy of the quarter, which has been restored preserving the old texture, and with the its cosmopolitan atmosphere: "Students, artists, journalists, photographers... all kinds of people live here. The shopkeepers are the locals. My neighbor, for example, is a pharmacist who has done business here for 40 years."
