index / The traditional and the modern Tokyo
Most of Tokyo’s avenues are tree-lined boulevards. With its buildings and fashionable boutiques, the Ginza, one of the most famous, is a showcase of flawless infrastructure.
The passing taxis are super. Ditto for their drivers in ties, white shirts and white gloves. Everything necessary has been thought of in advance and faultlessly implemented in this huge metropolis. The Tokyo metro, one of the prime modes of transportation, pulls into the station exactly on time down to the minute. I don’t remember being so impressed by a metro system in New York, Paris or London. There’s no pushing or shoving either because every new arrival queues up behind the earlier ones.
