A man who devoted more than 50 years to his craft before he passed away ten years ago, Giz took tens of thousands of shots which present a broad panorama of the Republican era. Together with Selahattin Giz, let us take a journey through the early years of the Republic.

A HALF CENTURY'S MARATHON
Born in Salonika in 1914, Selahattin Giz first became interested in photography when his uncle gave him a camera for his circumcision. This interest grew during his student days at the Galatasaray High School, where as a boarder it already excited him to click the shutter of his 6x9 Zeiss.

He liked sports, and soccer was his passion. One day a newspaper printed a photograph he had taken at a national match, and Selahattin Giz suddenly became a photojournalist for the newspaper Cumhuriyet.
