You can take a picnic and savor the sound of silence on the shores of Lake Borabay, or explore its forest trails and commune with nature.
I wake up to the chirping of birds and open the door of the tent. In the air the familiar scent of moisture, which fills my lungs instantaneously with the sweet-smelling forest fragrance. I walk down to the shore of the lake. The newly risen sun casts the shadows of the trees on the clear water, making them seem even taller. That’s when I realize why Borabay is called the ‘mirror lake’.
Lake Borabay in Amasya province is just 3 km above the district of the same name. A natural reservoir, formed when the Çatagin river, which arises on Mt Çivili in the foothills of Akdag, was dammed up by a landslide, it spreads over a deep valley bed at an elevation of 1051 meters. Water seeping from the bottom of the eastern end of the lake regains its wild flow to form a tributary of the Yesilirmak, the ancient River Iris of eternal fame.
