the art critics who discuss artists and
their works could be said to be completely
unaware of the master potters who produced
works in the Pop Art style in Çanakkale.
Prof. Dr. Gönül Öney was
the first person to undertake detailed
research on Çanakkale ceramics.
Her book, ‘Turkish Period Çanakkale
Ceramics’, published in 1971 and
providing extensive information about
the ceramics with examples, captured the
attention of the scholarly community.
Another study aimed at achieving recognition
for Çanakkale ceramics was the
comprehensive Çanakkale Ceramics
exhibition mounted at the Museum of Turkish
and Islamic Art in 1985, in which more
than 200 pieces collected from museums
and private collections were displayed.
