Our conversation with Gürbüz Dogan Eksioglu was full of interesting points about the position of a Turkish artist in the world, as well as a discussion regarding his work that appeared on the cover of The New Yorker magazine in memory of those who died in one of the worst terrorist acts in world history, the World Trade Center attack.

Would you say that you have reached your artistic goals?
I am an assistant professor and lecturer at the Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty. I have been drawing caricatures since 1977. I have received 64 awards, 23 of them international. In addition to my participation in many national and international exhibitons, I have opened nine personal exhibitions, one of which was in New York.
While working on these projects, I was also attempting to show the world that there is no qualitative difference between a Turkish artist and a European artist. I can say that I have been able to accomplish my goals.
