which
is responsible for ground services, cargo, parking,
fire service, air traffic control and all the
other essential airport services. The compny'ss
main shareholder is the Defence Industry Office,
and its top priorities are flight and ground safety,
and high service quality. As one of the foremost
high-technology airports, not only in Turkey but
in Europe, the air traffic volume through Sabiha
Gökçen Airport is expected to rise
rapidly over the next few years.
HEAS Media and Public Relations Adviser
Rauf Gerz explains, 'Atatürk Airport will
begin to reach saturation point this summer. Every
year the number of air passengers and tourists
rises by 5-7%. At present around 15 million international
air passengers arrive and depart from Istanbul,
and by the year 2005 is expected to reach the
20 million mark. Sabiha Gökçen Airport's
superior services and technology, combined with
the advantage of its position, will enable Turkey
to attract air traffic which has shifted to neighbouring
countries.' |
