General Information
In 1960, the island was given independence by the Treaty of Zurich. After the civil war in 1963, Turkish and Greek communities was divided and the United Nations formed the Green Line dividing the island as north and south. After the Greece started a military coup in 1974, Turkey sent its troops to protect the Turish Cypriot society. The Turkish Republic of North Cyprus (TRNC) was formally established in 1983 while the south of the island is occupied by the Greeks. TRNC is a democratic state. The Turkish Republic of North Cyprus is the harmony of nature, wildlife, beaches along the Mediterranean coastline, a mix of cultural and historical heritage. You should not leave the country without sunbathing at Altin Beach in Karpaz Gulf and experiencing the village life peculiar to Buyukkonuk.
