General Information

In 1949, the country fell into two states as the Western Federal Republic of Germany under the western allies and the Eastern German Democratic Republic under the occupation of Soviet Union. At the end of the Cold War, the world witnessed the unification of the German State in October 1990. As a result of having a long history of division, Germany harbors a culturally and historically stunning diversity.

In addition, the geographical beauties turn the country into a magnet. Berlin, the capital, bearing a history of divided city is the best reflection of this reality. The Brandenburg Gate that you should exactly visit in Berlin is the symbol of the unified Germany. Castles, abbeys, medieval villages and wine villages, especially the vineyards along the Rhine, are a few examples from the city of cultural, entertainment and historical mosaic. The 1,000 km long beaches of the coastline of North Sea and Baltic Sea, a plenty of lakes and rivers including Rhine and Danube rivers, the islands at the northern Germany and the excellent parks and gardens are a few examples from the country-wide natural treasury. The Black Forest stretching along the Rhine and the waterways lying between the lakes and rivers near Berlin and the West Pomeranian will captivate you. Boating is possible on these waterways, lakes and rivers. About 4,000 rivers, lakes, waterways in the region between West Pomeranian and Berlin constitute one of the most dramatic waterway systems in Europe.

Standing as one of the foremost members of European Union, Germany has the largest economy of Europe and is the second most populous country of Europe. The country is a member of NATO.
