General Information

Located on the northwest hill of Africa and the far west tip of the continent, the little Republic of Senegal..

The name of the country originates from the dugout canoes called Wolof that were used by fishermen. Today, races of specially designed canoes with bright colors is the most popular one among Senegal’s national sports. Still being used by fishermen, these vehicles are indispensable to leisure and commercial transportation through the 420 kilometer-long shoreline. Seafood is very significant in terms of livelyhood and sustenance for Senegal. In production and consumption of seafood, Senegal comes second in the world, following Japan. With its all-year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches, armlets, mangrove swamps, and its north region – approximately half of which became a desert- Senegal is one of the countries which you must visit.

Casamance Region, stretching from east to west just below Gambia, has the greatest beaches in West Africa. This region is one of the most popular touristic places in Senegal with its dense forests, coconut palm trees, shiny flame trees, bougainvillea, warm waters with sand beaches, and magnificient tropical scenes. Hotels located just next to the beaches turns the Casamance shore into a holiday paradise for visitors.

Gorée Island, a must-see spot located only 3 km away, is a point of shame as it was used as the most important “slave reserve” in West Africa between 16th and 19th centuries.

With a modern capital city outlook, Dakar -located at the tip of the peninsula-is full of local and international events, businessmen, and tourists, resembling a bee hive with its rapid pace amidst glittering chaos.
