General Information

Libya 90% of which is covered with dessert is a significant tourism country by its ancient sites and golden beaches along the Mediterranean coast. Libya Dessert including the north and east parts of Sahra Dessert is home to a plenty of ancient highlights and ruins which are the favourites of, yearly, thousands of tourists. Many ancient sites, especially at the coast, accepted as the World Heritage Site are found in Libya. At the south part of the coast;  the famous Shahat (Gorina), Sussa (Apolonia), Tolmitha (Ptolemias), Tukra (Tokhira) and Elmerj (Baqa) Ancient Greek cities are located. The ancient city placed at Tripoli has historical walls, fortresses, squares, old mosques and churches being the products of a long history. In addition, the streets in Roman architectural style of Tripoli blows a mystic wind in the city.          

A great deal of archeological cities including Leptis and Sebratha Roman cities placed at the coast are accepted as the World Heritage Sites. In addition to all these historical cities, the fascinating oasises and ancient attractions found in the Libya Dessert are mind-blowing. Germa and Guerza are the most inportant ancient monuments in the dessert.

The beaches along the 2,000 km long coast are the longest and the most diverse beaches in the Middle East and Africa. Sandy, rocky, piny and hill-scened beahes are the crucial components of the national tourism.  Zwara, West Mellita and Telil beaches found at the east coast are the best ones in Libya. The local people flocks in the beaches near Tripoli and Benghazi.
